Horrifying: A pregnant woman in Hammondsville was struck by her own car when she tried to jump back in the vehicle to rescue her 1-year-old son after it started drifting backward, Tuesday. The child’s father said she was getting ready to go somewhere when he realized she’d left her purse in the yard so he yelled out to her, and told deputies he thinks she just forgot to put it in park before she got out. Deputies said when it started rolling backward with the baby still inside, she tried to get back in, but the driver’s door knocked her down and the vehicle “rolled over top” of her, eventually crashing into a tree. The father said he was worried the car would continue down the 95-foot hillside so he ran to get the child before he turned his attention to getting help for the female, who is 21 weeks pregnant. She was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.
Caught in the act: A Beverly Avenue, Wintersville, woman told deputies she watched a man trying to break into her residence while she and her children were inside, Monday. She said she was alerted to the stranger’s presence by her doorbell camera, which showed a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and camouflage-patterned pants walking onto her porch and tampering with her screen before he noticed the surveillance camera and fled across the street.
Distance needed: A woman in Yorkville trying to gather her son’s belongings said she and her ex’s new girlfriend got into a fight, Monday. She said there’s a court order barring the girlfriend from being anywhere near her son, and the argument began when the girlfriend got too close to the vehicle where he was waiting. She said they argued and the girlfriend shoved her, but she didn’t want to pursue it. The girlfriend claimed the caller was so hostile she told her not to come in their house but she did anyway, and when told to leave tackled her so they fought. She told deputies, “I’m not going to lie, that girl beat my (expletive).” She wanted to pursue charges, but by that time deputies realized the property was in Belmont County and handed it off to deputies there.
Two sides: A Dillonvale woman complained neighborhood children were causing problems on her property and had taken a quad without permission, Monday. When deputies spoke with the fathers of the children involved, they said their boys “are constantly being harassed” by the caller and try to avoid her but she won’t leave them alone. They said once the occupants of the other house start drinking, “everything becomes an issue.”
Silly: Deputies were called after a 13-year-old and his friends allegedly jumped a 14-year-old at the pool in Yorkville in a dispute over a scooter, Monday. The kid who claimed he was jumped said the other boy thinks he stole his scooter, but told deputies it had been left outside a house in his neighborhood and when it was still there several weeks later, he talked to a police officer who told him if it sat a week, untouched, he could claim it. He said the other boy and his friends started chasing him, and at one point he pulled a pocket knife out to defend himself and ran away, dropping the knife as he ran. The other boy told them he and his friends went to the boy’s house and retrieved the scooter, which they brought to a family reunion at the park. He said the boy showed up asking if they took the scooter and when they told him it was never his to take, they said he pulled out the knife and threatened them. Once he pulled the knife out he said he and his friends ran at the boy, figuring they outnumbered him, and at one point they knocked him down. He said his mother made him throw the other boy’s knife away after the fight. The real problems started when the 14-year-old’s mother wanted the knife back and told deputies she wasn’t looking through bags of garbage for it, “especially if her son did not throw it in there,” while the mother who’d told her 13-year-old to throw it away said her son “isn’t digging through the trash” even after deputies pointed out he of all people would know where he’d tossed it. Deputies told both families to leave the park, ending the younger boy’s family reunion.
Senseless: A construction company supervisor told deputies someone vandalized his vehicles at a township Road 167 worksite, Tuesday. He said the front window and hood on one vehicle was damaged and the dipstick taken, and on the other one the fuel cap was missing and the gas tank filled with dirt.
Steer clear: A Wolf Run resident said a woman had stolen a tent he just purchased and burned it in a fire pit at a neighbor’s house, Monday. He said she also cut his vehicle’s battery terminals, stole a fuse, and also stole a pair of his Jordan shoes and gave them to a relative, but the relative had returned them. He said the woman had some marks on her face from running into a wall and was afraid if they talked to her, she might make something up.
Warring exes: Deputies were asked to referee when a Steubenville man’s ex-girlfriend went to his house to retrieve her belongings, Aug. 25. She had a court order allowing her to gather her possessions, but as soon as she claimed something as hers the two of them started yelling and screaming at each other. Her ex said she’d stolen from him in the past so deputies supervised her inside the house. He claimed a coffeemaker and TVs she was trying to take belonged to him, and that she’d already taken a TV. She also claimed a pink unicorn she said was gifted to her by her daughter, but he said it was a gift from his current girlfriend. The two had to be separated, and deputies told her any item in dispute had to remain in the home until the magistrate decides ownership.
Drugs: Police also responded to a Grandview Avenue resident after family members reported a man had overdosed, Tuesday. Steubenville firefighters/EMS were already on scene, and police said the man was sitting on the floor, sweaty and out of breath. He insisted to police he was “just tired and had too much alcohol to drink,” but family members said they’d found him unresponsive and administered two doses of Narcan before help arrived. He was given a drug treatment form.
— A man was found on his knees, leaning against an opened driver’s side door of a dark blue sedan in the 500 block of Union Avenue, Tuesday. When Steubenville firefighters/EMS arrived on scene he told them he’d used heroin and had snorted prescription pills with a straw, which police spotted in the center console. Police said Ryan Andresen, 40, 503 Union Ave., Steubenville, was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia along with a drug treatment form.

He told police he wasn’t aware of his license status, but common law states he did not need a driver’s license and they were illegal, at which point he was cited.
